Quality Performance, Inc. (QPI) Awarded $2.8 Million Moriah Wind System Low-Rate Initial Production Contract
Fredericksburg, VA., August 27, 2004 --- Quality Performance, Inc. (QPI) has received a $2.8 Million contract from the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division, Lakehurst, NJ for initial production of the Moriah Wind System.
The contract calls for production of 10 ship systems as well as on-board spares and diagnostic kits.
"We are extremely proud of our Team and very gratified to have successfully completed an accelerated design and development effort of the Moriah Wind System to meet the needs of our fleet. We are looking forward to full-rate production approval later this year," said Herb McDermott, President of QPI.
Moriah Wind System is a solid state wind measurement system employing ultrasonic technology to accurately measure wind speed and direction on naval ships. It is planned to replace the antiquated electro-mechanical "wind bird" system in the entire fleet over the next 20+ years. Besides the ultrasonic wind sensor unit the Moriah Wind System includes a dual-redundant wind processor unit and numerous 8.4" and 15" multifunctional color displays located throughout the ship. The Moriah Wind System successfully completed Technical Evaluation in September 2003 on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) and was deployed in the Persian Gulf pursuant to installation with no operational failures.
The Moriah Wind System will be manufactured in England by Aeronautical & General Instruments Ltd (AGI), one of QPI's key subcontractors. QPI will subcontract Lockheed Martin to accomplish the shipboard installations. QPI will perform all of the program, contract, configuration, and logistics management in their Fredericksburg, VA facility.
QPI, with 2003 sales of $3.5 Million, is a veteran-owned small business founded by Herb McDermott and Steve Fortner in 1990.
