Quality Performance, Inc. (QPI), a Veteran-owned small business, located in Fredericksburg, VA, was recently awarded a contract valued at $302,671 with MARINETTE MARINE CORPORATION http://www.manitowocmarine.com/Facilities/MarinetteMarine.asp.

The contract is to provide a Moriah Wind System (MWS) with meteorological wind sensors for the first Lockheed Martin Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Delivery of the first MWS LCS 1 ship set is expected in September 2005 with a 100% option for a second MWS ship set for delivery in early 2007 for LCS 2. http://peoships.crane.navy.mil/lcs/Lockheed.htm.

This version of the Moriah Wind System with met. is the first of its kind in the fleet and was designed specifically for the Lockheed Martin/Marinette Marine LCS. It includes two solid state ultrasonic anemometers, a dual-redundant wind processor unit, four 15" multi-functional color liquid crystal displays, and additional weather sensors (air temperature, relative humidity, dewpoint, and barometric pressure), all needed by the LCS ship's systems. The MWS will be totally integrated with the LCS distribution network.

QPI will provide total program and contract management as well as factory training, depot-level maintenance support at their Fredericksburg facility. QPI's subcontract manufacturer is Aeronautical & General Instruments Ltd (AGI), located in Poole, Dorset, England.

Mssrs. Steve Fortner and Herb McDermott founded Quality Performance, Inc. in September 1990. Both are Navy Veterans who served during the Vietnam War period. The company currently has eight employees and expects to double its work force as the MWS goes into full rate production, which is scheduled for later this year. In March 2002 QPI was awarded the Moriah Wind System Contract by NAVAIR, valued at $94M over the next 10 years.
